History & Owners

Colporteur Books (formerly Cheapread Books) began as a temporary solution to Todd's unemployment following seminary, but quickly developed into a full time job. Colporteur Books began in Princeton, New Jersey. Colporteur Books moved briefly to Huntsville, Alabama, just prior to Todd and Christy Noren-Hentz's wedding. After the couple's wedding, Colporteur Books moved to Greenville, Illinois. Three months later, Christy accepted a position at a church in the Montgomery area as the Children's Pastor and Colporteur Books moved to Prattville, Alabama. Several months later, Colporteur Books moved to Montgomery, Alabama in the historic Capitol Heights neighborhood. Then we moved out of the house and into a store at 2015 Mulberry Street in Montgomery, AL. Our brick and mortar store was an unmitigated disaster and after the year's lease was up, we moved back into our home and continued successfully with our online bookstore.

Given Todd's educational and ecclesiastical background, the focus of Colporteur Books has been on obtaining and selling quality academic oriented Christian and religious books. He cut his teeth working at the Theological Book Agency, which is the Princeton Seminary book store, and operating the Princeton Seminary Stewardship Committee Used Book Sale for two years. Recently, Colporteur Books has outsourced its fulfillment to Amazon.com's Fulfillment by Amazon program. We plan on reopening this site sometime in 2010 with a focus on fine and collectible religious books. All other books will be sold through Amazon.com.
